OPUNAKE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Nov. 11.— The postponed match between the P.ihaina Rifle Club and the Opunake Rifles' Morris Tube Club took "both teams, all but two men making over thirty out of a possible 35. The finish provided some excitement, after the ninth man on either side had finished. The scores were level, and it all depended on the last two men. Pihama's luck was out, however, their man m*lrinc> only 29, while the Opunakeite, Private Bowman, put on the fine score of 34. The home team thus won by the narrow margin of five points, the totals .being 310 and 315 respectively. It is likely that a return match at an early date will' be arranged. The sea bathing season has started again, and a number of enthusiasts ace taking advantage of the fine weather to enjoy this favourable pastime. It is a fact not generally known that about the best beach in Taranaki for this land of sport is to be found in the Opunake Bay. . Being very level, it, is possible for bathers to go out a long way without getting out of thoir depth. At low tide were is quite half a mile square of hard flat sandy beach which provides a delightful ground for 1 the numerous picnickers that visit the locality in the summer.^ Lost season a number of people from the inland towns, paid Opunake a visit for the. first time, and expressed thcniseftes as delighted With its advantages as a holiday resort. They were surmised that it was so little known to the general public. However, things are improving in that direction, and .this season will probably see a big iaqtete In ,th"c number of summer visitors.

The Pihama Tennis Club opened its lawn on the King's Birthday. A large nutttber of people were in' attendance, including a number pf visitors from Opunake. The Pihama Club has a strong membership, and although principally young players, should have a tery successful season..
