During Mr. C. Palmer's visit to New Plymouth he will be the guest of the Mayor, Mr. G. Tisch.
Mr. Robert W. Comyns, a journalist, who used to be a frequent visitor to New Plymouth gatherings, such as agricultural shows and ratces, died at Wanganui on Wednesday.
Messrs. G. N. Morey and H. Smith, assistants at Mr. W. Fraser's pharmacy, have passed the "A" section in the pharmacy examination. They were coached for €he examination by Mr. John Young, of New Plymouth.
Mr. J. K. Leys, M.A-, novelist, is vlead, states a cable from London. The late Mr. Leys was educated atr-tbe High School and at the University of Glasgow. He was called to the Bar, Middle Temple, in 1874, and afterwards practised as a barrister. for some /ears at Nowcastle-on-Tyne. His publications inojude: The Lindsays, a romance of Scottish life; The Lawyer's Secret ; the Black Terror ; The Houseboat Mystery; Held in the Toils; A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing; and The Broken Fetter.

The loceased- entered* the Wesleyan ministry v 1861 and in 1880 lie was appointed Principal of Wesley Collego, Sheffield. In 1870 he commenced a series of-micro-scopical researches on the life-histories ff minute septic organisms, which ex■oikled over ten years. He followed these researches by other cognate researches. He was elected a Fellow of he Royal Society in 1880, and president of the Royal Microscopical Society for four years. He also held tho position of senior lecturer on the staff of lie Gilchrist Educational Trust. The 'ate Mr. Dailinger edited and rewrote Mio lnst edition of Tho Microscope and ts Revelations, which was enlarged and almost wholly again rewritten in 1901.
