IN THE WILD WEST.
A story is told of a woman whose husband had one day been away from home * much longer than was usual. She waited patiently, however, when, to her surprise and alarm, a band of ruffians rode up and dismounted, a little distance from the hut, and approaching her, the - leader of the party exclaimed apologetically : "We come to teU yer, ma'am, that we've lynched your husband. We admit we've hung the wrong man, so you've got the laugh on us there."
"hi my school days," said a storyteller, " we used .to hare a lecture every Friday afternoon. One day the lecturer was a geologist, and chose Niagara •. Falls, for nis topic. He told us about' the* geological formation of the falls, described the different periods ;to be traced in the gtrge, and then went on to say that the falls were slowly wearing, hack toward Buffalo, and that in thecourse of some 200.000 . years they would be worn back, to Erie, Pennsylvania, and that the town would be left high and dry. Suddenly one of the girls in my class began to sob convulsively.. 'What is the matter P 1 asked the teacher in alarm. 'Oh,' wailed the girl, 'my sister lives in Eric.' " . .
