TARANAKI WOOL AND SKIN SALES.

MR. NEWTON KING'S REPORT

On Tuesday, June 8, I held my usual four-weekly sale of above produce. As usual there was a large attendance of buyers. Bidding was brisk througho\it, and good prices were obtained for everything. The catalogue comprised 924 ox and cow hides, including 200 freezer hides, 62 yearlings, 276 calf skins. 2437 sheep skins, 9 bales and 55 sacks wool, 20 casks 1 barrel and 26 tins tallow, besides horsehair, cowtails, horns, etc. In consequence of the better tone of the wool market, sheep skins and wool advanced Jd to Jd per lb. Cow hides and light ox sold well at late rates, heavy ox declined J<l to Jd per lb. Calf skins advanced from id to Id per lb, according to quality. I quote : Wool. — Medium crossbred 6Jd to 7d. coarse 6d to 6Jd, black sid, lambs 6{d to 6id, black lambs 6d, dead 5d tn 6|d, pieces 4d to 4Jd, crutchings 3Jd to 4id, locks 3id to 3Jd. Sheep Skins. — Dry fine crossbred 7d to 7}d, medium 6jd to 6Jd, coarse 6d to 6Jd, half wools 5Jd to 6d. Lambs, woolly 6jd to 7d, shorn 4Jd to sid, pelts 3d to 4}d, damaged 4Jd to sd, dead 4}d to sd. Sheep skins, damp woolly 5s 7d to 7s, half wools 4s to 4s lid, quarters wools 2s 6d to 3s 3d. pelts Is 6d to 2s 6d, woolly lambs 3s 3d to 4s Id, shorn lambs Is 9d to 2s Id. , Sheep skins, salted woolly 4s 9d to 5s , 4d, half wool 3s lOd to 4s, lambs 3s 3d ! to 4s. pelts Is to Is 6d. Butcher hides, ox extra stout 6}d to 7}d, stout 6§d to 7d, medium 6jd to 6fd, light s|d to 6d, cut ox 5Jd to 6d, cow superior heavy 6Jd to o|d, ordinary 5Jd to 5Jd, medium sjd to Cd, light 5Jd to s{d, superior light 6d, cut cow 5d to s|d, farmers' cow 4fd to 5Jd, cut cow 4d to 4sd, slippy 3d to 4]d, yearlings s}d to 6jd. staps 4Jd. Horse hides, heavy 8s 6d to 9s od, medium 7g 6d to Bs, light 6s 3d to 7s, out 2s to 9s. Calf Skins.— Best lines 9d to 9Jd, good 8d to B{d, medium 7)d to 7|d, slippy 5Jd to 6d, cut 6fd to 7ld, dry 7d each.

Tallow. — In casks best mixed 23s Gd to 23s Od, good 23s to 23s 3d, in tins 21s 9d per cwt. Cowtails, Is 5d per doz. Horsehair, Is 6£d per lh. Horns. 2s M to os S)d per 100. Bonos, passed in.
