(From Our Ow n Corr^^ondent.) April 2!).— On Monday evening tlu annual meeting ot householders took place in the, seuoolhausc, a fair numbvr being present. Tho report (whioh w<are unable to print in full) states that ■tho roll number is still increasing. At the last annual meeting there was a roll number of 96. It is now 112.1 he success of the candidates from the Opunake School at the various examinations for matriculation, junior Civil Service, and scholarships was indeed gratifying. For matriculation, MisseRita Still and Jessie M'Arthur; lor junior Civil Service, rinbeit Looney . and for junior National Scholarship examination, Celia Robertt-on, Grai- l Lusk, and Aitkon Lusk nassed. Aitken Lusk also won a scholarship and is novattending the New Plymouth lli-'l 1 School. The committee ajsam made j" urgent effort to obtain a D'stnet Uig' School for Opnnako. and although tm reply received from the Taranaki Iviucatibn Board was not very encouvaging, the committee still pushed the matter and sent a deputation to V. ctlington, viz., the Rev. J. M'Arthur who interviewed the Minister of l'.du cation and placed the matter fully «irvi clearly before him. However, so far it has not been able to get any further Although unsuccessful, the education of local children is not suffering, !"- Mr. Gray is doing the .same work voluntarily!
