Trying to Break Gaol.
Per Press Association. Christchurch, July 29. Dennett, ome of the men sentenced for the recent Amberley burglary, .was discovered <trying 'to break out of the Addington: gaol. He had , secreted two cold chisels from the workshop, but Mr Cleary, the gaoler, hearing* suspicous tapping near the tailor' shop, found i>he prisoner in! a tank under the floor. The nails of the man-hole cover had been draxyn ,and the holes concealed with/ tailors' clappings'., Den-y nett had a lead-headed mallet, a lanip^ two chisels, and two suits of, clothes. The trousers of one suit*, were those of another prisoner, which had been missed. i • T-he wall to be cut through was two feet thick, but Dennett had only got through a few inches when caught. ;
