A Ship in Distress.

(Per Press Association). Auckland, May 27.— A large full- rigged ship was reported in the Hauraki Gulf about sundown with signals flying for a pilot. The ship was sighted by the ss. Glenolg whilo coming from Whangarei to Auckland. She was under close reefed sail*, evidently iv distress. A pilot left to assist her, but the" ship cannot reach harl'onr till morning, Auckland, May 28.— The ship iv disiresH is tbe Johu A. Bnggs, which left Newcastle on May 3rd for t>an Francisco. She is anchored outside tho North Head. She has a big dip forward, and is evidently leaking. The punsps are going steadily.
