Truanble, Carter, and Saunders stood out of the Australian team, and Cranfleld, the Somerset bowler, and Llewellyn out of the home team. The weather was line and warm, but dubious, and the attendance good. Grace won the toss and sent Palairet and Fry to face the bowling of ♦Jones and Noble. The batsmen commenced quietly, but soon warmed up, and runs came freely . After the half-century appeared Darling tried a double change of bowling, Howell and Trumper replacing Noble and Jones, and it had the desired effect, for with the score at 79 Fry retired leg before to Hpwell.^He was 53 minutes at the wickets; aDd when he had made 8 he was badly missed by Trumper at inid-on. One wicket for 79. Ranjitsinhji .filled the vacancy, and -immediately lost his partner, who was clean bowled by Trumper. Two for 79. Braund joined Rangi, and Jones nnd Noble again went on to bowl. Trott came next and assisted to carry th.c total to 110, when he was d smissed by a nice catch by Duff at long-off from Noble. Five for 110.
