Mr O 'Regan's Tetter re settlement in South Africa was referred to the Colonial Councils for consideration.' The local branch- of the teachers' Institute has resolved that if the details bear out the case as telegraphed, to make a levy to assist the master at Hiutaia fined for chastising a boy. TEACHiERS' COURT OF APPEAL. Wanganui, April 6. ' The Teachers' Court of Appeal has | been engaged for the past three days in hearing the appeal of R. P. Clarl&son, late he.ad teacher of Normanby school, against his dismissal by: the Wanganui Education 33oard. The Board's contention was that the Inspector's reports on the' school examinations - - were • not favourable. Clarkson held that he had not been guilty of ineglect, and that the faults which might have been found in his work had been due to circumstances over which he had no control. In extenuation of this, Cla^rkson stated that the children attending the school were rendered unfit for active mental work by the fact that they had to milk a number of cows before coming to school, and that the dairying industry, was inimical to good, results being obtained by any teacher. The Court upheld the appeal and ordered the reinstatement of Clarkson. -* THE CORONATIOw CONTINGENT. Wellington, April 7: It is understood that the command of the Coronation Contingent will be offered to Colonel Porter, now commanding the Seventh New Zealand Contingent in South Africa. THE OKORO'IKE POISONING .CASE. r The Commissioner of Police has received a report that an analysis of the liver and stomach of the late Mrs Court, who died at tbe Okoroire Botel last month, has been completed by Mr Pond, the Government Analyist, Auckland, who failed to find a trace r of either mineral < or alkaloid poison. Samples of food stuffs , and condiments used when Mrs Court was at the hotel were found to be sound and wholesome, and Mr Pond is of opinion ibat the illness of Mrs Court and the other lodgers was caused by ptomaines in whipped cream. Seveial medical men of Auckland agree with this theory. THE SEDDON TESTIMONIAL.
