Including 7073 Canadians and Australians and 26,000 Natal aud Cape men, tho total mounted troops Avould be 37,300. There wore 452 guns, 110 being heaA-y and tha rest field guns. Tho Boers had 60,000 men aud ] 10 guns. Prior to the ultimatum, General Buller had expressed himself satisfied with the proportion of cavalry arranged for, but in order to gratify the splendid patriotism of the colonies Great Britain Avould give the colonial troops an immediate place at the front. The Colonial Governments, had been invited to send manageable units of 125 men. The Government's desire ay.is to meet the Avishos of the colonies, whose Lcgislutures had accepted the military disappointments in a way that others nearer home might have imitated He admitted that, the maps at the disposal of the Generals did not include the territory between Ladysmith and Tugela, but promised early military reports. Sir EdAvard Grey denied that the assistance of tho Opposition Avould cease Avith the expulsion of the invaders from British territory. Tho debate Avould have collapsed only the Whips had arranged a diAision for Tuesday.
