'fPEB PBKSS AbSOCIATION,] A CHARGE OF ARSON. Wki.lixgtox, February 3. A charge of arson preferred agaiust Sarah Jessie Buclc is being investigated in the Magistrate's Court. The premises, which had been occupied by the accused, wore destroyed by iiro on the 21st December. The Crown allege that Mrs Buck had been unsuccessful in a sale of furniture and was in monetary difficulties: also that a prior attempt had been made to fire the building. The case will occupy all da}'. THE VOLUNTEERING MOVEMENT. PalmerstOn North, February 3. At a largely attended public meeting, convened by Mr F. Pirani, M.H.R., held last evening, it was decided to form another infantry corps at Palmerston. At the termination of the meeting 68 names of intending volunteers were handed in. A strong committee was appointed to carry out all details of the formation of a company, and also in connection .with a proposed Rifle Club and cadet corps. Prominent citizens subscribed freely towards the initial expense of the new company.
