Lord Landadowne, Secretary for War, has introduced an amended Militia Conscription Bill providing for the selection, of men by ballot between the ages of 1 8 and 65. The Marquis explained that owing to the activity of tbelabour market there was increased difficulty in recruiting the militia which feeds the army. Personally he disliked to use compulsion, and would only adopt such a course when there was no other way of providing for the country's safety. DISASTROUS EARTH FALL. Bloeju-onteis, July 8.
