The engineer had accordingly been' ins strncted to prepare plans for a bridge over Te Ngamu. >,'" j ' '■ j ' Mr Jones waited on ] the Council' regarding his contract for the delivery of < stone, and wanted to know if it 1 was right that, after his contract was finished for five months and he had received 75 per cent, oi the contract price, he should be ordered to return to his contract, which he bad gone back on at the instance of the foreman. He added that the cons tract was taken at a summer price. — Mr Jones was questioned as to the quantity of stone carted, and it was eventually decided, on Mr Tate's suggestion, that the matter should be left in' the bands of Messrs McDonald and Horrocks to see what Atone was lyiog unbroken, Mr T^ate remarking that there seemed to be friction between the contractor ' and overseer. .
Pursuant to notice given, Mr George moved that an overseer be appointed for the whole county, and pointed out what he considered would be the advantages of such an, appointment.— Mr Price seconded and was supported by Mr Caddy — Messrs Alt-Donald, Lepper, and r Horrooks were against the proposition. Mr Tale thought they should let well alone, and the Chairman said be could not agree • with the proposal, .adding; that the 'roads, were never in auch a satisfactory state as now. —The motion was lost. It was reported that the Waiongona bridge at Lepperton was in. a weak stite, and the Couuc-il decided to instruct the bridge carpenter to attend to the matttr at once.
