No greater proof could bo given of the pliable revolutionary mind, says the Paris correspondent of tie Sydney Morning Herald, than the fact that not a single insurgent or wild Communist of 1871 haa failed to jump at anj offer of a placo under Govornmont. Triuquet, tho implacable cobbler of Belleville, died a full blown municipal functiomry, and so an with the rest. Now the great and only Maxime Lisbonne, who carried out the mandate of Raoul Rigaat to burn down the Ministry of Finanie, has acceptod a place as tax collector. His career has been extraordinary. At one time he used to play the parts of <airy princes at a minor theatre. H« then founded some of those ineffalle taverns at Montmartre, which are n»w legion. M. Andrieux, whan Prefect of Police, almost pronounced his name as a coadjutor, and ho is not the only aembor of tho revolutionary groups who draw money to watch their companions. His invoctives against landlords md other vampires of society will nopr take the form of summonses, and it will be amusing to find tha colonel o' the barricades and petroleum puttiag {in the brokers.
