PRESENTATION TO MR F. E. CLARKE.
A.T the Borough Council meeting to- ' night Mr F. E. Clarke, chief draughtsman ■ in the Survey Office, will be presented i with an illuminated address,, enclosed in i a heavy gilt frame, which baa been presented to him by the citizens of Hokitikn, whero Mr Clarke resided prior to his 1 transfer hence. The address is as follows :—: — " F. E. Clarke, Esquire.— Dear Sir,— i We, the undersigned, on behalf of your . many friends on the eve of your departure from amongst us, dosiro to express to you our deep regret that you should '■ have been removed to another sphere of , usefulness. As a public servant we can testify to the unfailing courtesy with which you have attended to tho requirements of those having business with your dopartment. We would also express to 1 you our sense of your worth as a citizen, particularly with reference to your exer1 tions in tho cause of acclimatisation, to your endeavours to foster all manly pursuits, and to your study and original observation of the fish of this coast, which we are glad to know havo merited the commendations of eminent savants. Wo sincerely trust that in your new domicilo your path of life may be a pleasant one, and that health and happiness may attend Mrs Clarko, your family, and yourself. — P. W.
