INGLEWOOD.

[FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] January 16 —A fire occurred in Inglewood on Monday night last underneath the back part of Miss Carlington's, dressmaker, house about 12 o'clock which might have done a great deal of injury if any wind had been blowin? at the time. Mrs Carrington went to tedjthere being nfl sign of fire then, but on Miss Carrington retuffiing^ about one o'clock from an entertainment, she on entering her room found it filled with smoke. A search was made when it was discovered that an old sack and some ritfter material had been on fire and had burnt itself out, Shejcannot account for its origin. I had the pleasure of being present last evening when presentation's were made by Mr J. C. Peach, on behalf of the Church choir and Sunday school tedebefs. Beth young ladies who received the pl'esfnits are about to make a change in their lives*, and are determined to live single no lo'ng'ef.. The gift received by Miss Clara Tayl'of, and who is to be a comrade to Mr Quinn, of Hie Moa Block, was a handsome 8 day clock, and that presented to Miss E. J. Taylor, who is to tie the matrimonial knot with Mr Edward Taylor, of Inglewood, was a very nice crc#t stand. Mr J. C. Peach, in handing the gift to the recipients, spoks in rather feeling terms as to the loss of the services of both young ladies ; Miss Clara Taylor was for a long period organist to the church, and she with Miss E. J. Taylor were Sunday school teachers. He would miss them for some time to come, but now as they were about to comply with the injunction of becoming two in one, he trusted they would obey the other great commandment increase and and multiply. MessrsE verity Joe Bennett, Rumboldt also spoke and wished a happy and long life, and after all of them left this world it is to be hoped they would meet in the next. Your humble servant also wished the pair good luck with their comradeship, and hoped they would be fit to carry their knapsack and full kit, and may their march b(' a long one here below. January 17.—A little boy five years old, sen of Mr Rowlinson, engineer, fell off the engine this afternoon, the engine struck him on the face. I fear he will not recover. Dr. Valintine attended the boy as quickly as possible. He was riding on the engine with his father.
