TRAINING NOTES FOR MEL BOURNE RACES.
[per press association j Melbourne, October 2.— There were some sound gallops on Saturday when Patron covered a mile brilliantly in lmin 48secs. Work on Monday morning was only desultory. Portsea was in a likely looking condition but was indulged with a spell. Destiny, who is extremely muscular, finished m front of Eiridsforde and Malachite, tho last six furlongs taking Jmin 25secs. Tarcoola, wearing a vastly improved appearance, galloped eleven furlongs on sand track in 2min 3Gs'ecs. Cobbity, Light Artillery, Tellus, Swordbearer, Bruin and Moscow put in some good work, but Jonathan and Hova were under a cloud. The latter is not likely to be a starter in the Melbourne Cup.
Mails for Auckland, per Mahinapua, close this day (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. The attention of sheepowners is drawn to "Little's Sheep Dip" advertisement on our fourth page. This dip is becoming increasingly popular, at the large sales •ufficiently prove. The Co-operative Society are the agents for tho New Plymouth district.
