OKATO.
[prom our own oorresponqent.] September 10.— -Lucy Porikapa died on Sunday night, after a long and painful illness. Great preparations are being made for a tangi. I understand she is to be buried »n Thursday. The technical difficulties which have hitherto prevented the Commissioners from acquiring land for the enlargement of the cemetery have finally been removed, and an effort is being made to carry out the scheme ; I have no doubt the public will respond liberally to the appeal. Al the Kiahihi factory the percentage system of payment has come into operation. The first few tests were very unsatisfactory (from the suppliers' point of view), but later tests have bocome more conciliatory, and encourage the hope of the test system, being in favor of the suppliers, especially if farmers are supported by a good butter season. Improvements and alterations. Mr Ben Gray has erected a house on his section near the township, Mr Nic Julian has removed his house convenient to the metal road, Mr J. Clark, & now cottage in the township, Mr J. Corbett, of Stratford, has opened a butcher business.
