Mr Joseph Mackay (Midhirst), Mr Henry Faull (Tikorangi), and Mr "Walter Ambnry (New Plymouth) have been elected as members of the Taranaki -Education Board. The Borough Council has appointed Mr W. \V. Smith, of Hawera, to the po sition of foreman. He "will be on probation for one month, when, if he gives satisfaction, he will be permanently appointed. Mr Smith has had four or five years' experience under the Hawera Borough Council, and will no doubt give every satisfaction. The vacancy on the Land Board it is expected will be filled by Mr Heslop. On April 12 Colonel Trimble's term of office will expire. There was a good muster of Volunteers and cadets at the Drill-shed on Monday evening, when Colonel Newall, in the unavoidable absence of Colonel Fox, held an inspection. After- the inspection the cadets were dismissed, and the Taninaki Bjfles were initiated into the new drill. At the close of the drill eight new membeira were sworn in. The Members of the Volunteer Fire Brigade, who competed at the annual meeting at Napierj have returned. The s.s. -Murray arrived at the breakwater from Nelson this (Tyesday) morning with a cargo consigned to Mr Newton King. After discharging she left for "Vyestport.
