[from a ookki spondbnt] March 9. — A meeting was held in the Wesleyan Church here on Thursday, March Bth, ■when a deputation fn>m New Plymouth, and Mr Asher, of Richmond Road, gave addresses on the Licensing Act. Mr Wright was elected chairman, and expressed himself in cordial sympathy with the teetotal workers. Mr J. r i*J White outlined the chief features of the new Act. Mr J. H. White followed, and said the education of public opinion afforded by tho election would help progress, and whatever tho present jssue, they were nearer tho final triumph of their cause. Mr Asher also spoke. Votes of thanks to speakers and chairman were followed by questions and replies.
