It i 3 reported that Arton, who is implicated in the Panama scandals ha 9 been murdered. PANAMA CANAL SCANDAL The judge who is trying the Panama : Canal Director, amid prolonged uproar, rebuked M. Charles De Lesseps for stating the Government was largely responsible for the Company paying enormous sums to bankers and newspapers. He especially instanced MM. Froycinet, Floquet, and Clemenceau as supporters of this policy. M. De Lesseps states that M. Floquet asked and obtained three hundred thousand francs(£ 12,000) for the newspapers which were opposing General Boulangcr. His coolness and frankness are a strong contrast to the caution previously displayed, and he is evidently disposed to reveal everything. He reproached the Judge for trying to shelter the Government.
