LOAN PROPOSALS CARRIED.

DEOBiMBER 16. —Tho poll for the Joan proposals was taken yesterday, and resulted in 62 votes being recorded for the main road metalling, G3 for the by-streets improvement, and 38 for tho now bridge. The total number on tho roll boing 117, the two first aro carried and tho lust lost. Tho ratepayers are to bo heartily congratulated on the result of yesterday's polling. If the main street loan had not been carried, the town would have been in an extraordinary dilemma. Owing to tho decision of tbo Auditor-General, not a penny of rates, hold licenses, or rents could have been spent on the principal thoroughfare for some years to come, unless the County handed over control, in which case there would have been no power to raise a loan except tho £300 a year which is within tho scope of a Town Board, a sum quite useless for such a work as bringing the road to tho permanont level and metalling "full width, to say nothing of a new bridge. !
