HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS.
Tiie High School annual sports were hold on the Bchool ground on Thursday, when there was a good attendance of parents and frieods of the scholars. Messrs J. Hislop and R. Roy acteed as starter and judge respectively, and Messrs E. Pridham and H. Kitchingham as handicappers.i Miss Montgomery and the girls of the sahool provided luncheon and afternoon teafor visitors and competitors. The following are the results :— < 100 Yards— lst heat: McDiarmid (3yds), j Ist; Duffin (scratch), 2nd; Wikon (3ydß), 3rd. 2nd heat : Coldwell (4yds), Ist ; Skeet (3yds), 2nd ; Rickerby (4yds), 3d. Final Heat : Duffin, Ist ; McDiarmid, 2nd; Rickerby, 3. A splendid race. Won by a few inches, the same distance separating second and third. Coldwell fell. Hop, Step, and Jump — Skeet, 36ft 2in (including 15in handicap), Ist; Rickerby, 35ft lOin (including 26in), 2nd 220 Yards Handicap— Skeet, 7yds, Ist; Duffin, scr, 2nd; MacDiarmid, 11yds, 3rd. Won easily Throwing the Ciicket Ball— Skeet, Ist (distance 80yds); Rickerby, 2nd (74yds) Quarter-mile Handicap (open also to past scholars) — B. Bauchope, 12yds, Ist ; Wilson, 12yds, 2nd. Won easily. Duffin, scr, also ran, but did not finish. Three-legged Race — Wilson and MacDiarmid, Ist High Jump— Duffin, sft (handicap 2in), let; Wilson, 4ft llin (3in), 2nd; Gayne, 4ft 9in (4in), 3rd Hurdle Race — First heat : Hursthouse (3yds), 1; Duffin (4yds behind scratch), 2. Second heat : Competitors retired except Skeet. Final heat: Skeet (2yds), 1; Duffin, 2. A good race. Hursthouse fell at the 4th hurdle. Pole Jump— Skeet, 6ft llin. (2in)l; Hursthouse, 6ft 9in (scr), 2. Hursthouse had to give up after jumping 6ft 9in, having hurt his foot in the hurdle race. - Half Mile— Duffin (syds), 1; Wilson (20yds), 2; Skeet (20yds), 3. Won easily. Girls' Race— Miss K. Witchell, 1 ; Miss A. Wilson, 2; W. Capel, 3. Gymnastic Competition — McDiarmid (7 points), 1 ; Evans (6 points), 2. These were the only competitors. Potato Race— Duffin, 1 ; Evans, 2 ; Wilson, 3. The boys desire to thank those who so kindly gave subscriptions towards buying the trophies.
