STRIKE COMMENCED IN SYDNEY. WHARVES DESERTED. STEAMERS BEING LAID UP. TWENTY-THREE STEAMERS LAID UP. CLOSING OF UNION FACTORIES BOYCOTTING LABOR. jPEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Sydney, August 19. — The wharves present a deserted appearance. Tho wharf laborers came out in a body at 2 ' o'clock this afternoon, and the seamen are coming out as their notices expire. The master stevedores are advertising for labor to load and discharge vessels. All the vessels in port, except the boats trading to New Zealand, have been laid up. The Jubilee and Te Kapo sailed for New Zealand this evening. The oeal lumpers have decided to strike fo-night-Melbourke, August 19. — The laaritime bodies have resolved to come ont to-morrow. Brisbane,. August 19. — The managers, clerks, and other officials are engaged discharging cargoes on the wharf. Sydney, August 20. — Twenty-three steamers are now laid up at various Australian ports. Melbourne, August 20. — The employers are considering the advisability of throwing in their lot with the Shipowners' Union, and closing the foundries, engineering works, and factories, now employing Union labour^
