NEWMARKET SPRING MEETING.

London, April 29. — At the Newmarket First Spring Meeting to-day the Hastings Plate was won by Baron Rothschild's Heaurae ; Hackler, 2; Kirkham, 3. Twelve horses ran. Rickaby, tho English jockey, rode Mr White's colt.

Only Kirkhamwill be started in the Two Thousand Guineas to-morrow, but he is not much fancied.

The steamer Takapuna landed 114 English mail bags at the breakwater on Tuesday, 12 of which were for the local office, the remainder being for the South, whither they were despatched by train the same day.
