ANOTHER PARTY ASCEND MOUNT EGMONT.
A pahtv consisting' of Messrs Holds worth, Macke^hnoy, and J. C. Davies ascended Mount Egmont on Monday, by Egtnont road track, leaving town in the early morning and returning at half-past seven in the evening. The track is in good order and the party appear to have enjoyed the. trip, although the view was somewhat impaded by banks of cloud about half way up the mountain. On the top it was perfectly clear, and a beautiful view was therefore obtained. An hour was pleisantly spent there in going to the different peaks and exploring the ice caves, which are described as a magnificent sight. In descending, the party passed through a dense fog while on the scoria, and would in all probability have missed the track and come down the wrong spur, as there was considerable difference ot: opinion, as to the route, but fortunately tiie Taranaki Herald or Buduet proved to be the guiding star. Mr lloldsworth having a copy with him and with presence of mind while I ascending tore up the paper and placed small pieces on the rocks, thus saving time in looking for the right track and possibly haviug to camp out in tho fog for tho night This hint should be taken advantage of by all who go up in cloudy weather. Two young men from Inglewood who had started the previous day were met with ou the top, and joined the party on thuir return, having spent a very pleasant day.
