MURDER IN RECREATION GROUNDS.

CORONER'S JURY VISIT LOCALITY.

On Monday afternoon the Coroner's jury' the Coroner, Inspector Pardy, and others paid a visit to the Recreation grounds to see the locality where Maloney was found murdered, and also to see the murdered man's hut. The spot, which is on the right of the patli leading into Wakefield-street is a very lonely and secluded one, being about 10 yards off the path, and is reached by a gentle slope from the path. After viewing this the party paid a visit to the hut which was locked up. A key was procured, and the party went inside. After inspecting the immediate surroundings the party returned to town by way of Goverstreet. EVIDENCE FORTHCOMING IN FAVOUR OF MAHI KAI. Mr Samuel has been making investigations respecting the movements of Main Kai on the day of the murder of Maloney, and seems confident that he has collected evidence that will show that the native could not have committed the murder. We understand he brought two witnesses to Inspector Pardy and the Crown Prosecutor, and Hs given them copies of their written statements, so that they may be called at the inquest. These statements, corroborated by the evidence of others, will go to show that Main Kai was not in the Recreation Grounds at the time when it is supposed the murder was committed.
