WAITARA.
I PROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 December 24. — The Waitara East School broke up for the holidays on Friday last, when a pleasing ceremony took place. As the school will be hereafter closed on account of the amalgamation of tho east and west schools tho children, at the close of the lessons, spent a few hours together in fun and frolic, and were afterwards entertained at tea by Mrs Dickie. During the evening, Mr J. 11. Clark, the Chairman of the School Committee, on behalf of the scholars, presented the head master, Mr Dickie, with a handsome gold pin. Ho said that all were sorry that Mr Dickie, who for four years had been to them " a kind friend, a good master, and a successful teacher," was about to leave the district. Mr Dickie, who was much moved, replied thanking the children for their handsome gift, and advised them to be always regular and punctual in their attendance in school. Tho Rev J. T. Pinfold also made a short speech eulogizing the work of Mr Dickie, and expressing his pleasure that Miss Carrick, the pupil teacher, was to be employed in the new school. Cheers were given for their master and Mrs Dickie, and the proceedings terminated.
