WAITARA.

November 28. — A public meeting was held in the Town Hall, Waitara, on Wednesday, for the purpose of discussing the advisability of holding the annual regatta. There was a large attendance. Mr John Elliott was voted to the chair. It was unanimously agreed that the regatta should be held in January, 1890. The election of officers was then proceeded with, resulting as follows : — President, Mr Thomas Bayly; Vice-President, Mr A. F. Halcombe; Stewards: Rev. F. T. Baker, Messrs Marchant, M.H.R., J. Foreman, R. B. Roy, T. Elliot, J. Elliot, and Dr O'Carroll; Judge, Mr James Paul; Starter, Mr John Cameron ; Committee : Messrs S. W. Nicholls, Ogle, T. Elliot, L. Sarten, C. Lepper, T. W. F. Marsden, J. R. Clark, M. Cunningham, H. T. Joll, G. W. Barford, and the President and Vice-President.
The CUf ton and Waitara Rowing Clubs are now going in for heavy practise for the forthcoming regatta. Each of these clubs is expecting a new whaleboat to arrive from Auckland next week. The Tikorangi club is also in full swing.
On Saturday, December 7th, there will be a sale of work in the Public Hall, and in the evening there will be a concert, at which the local Band and the Wesleyan church choir will take part. It is in aid of the Wesleyan church liquidation debt fund.
