THE FRAUDS ON THE BANK OF NEW ZEALAND.
TUREGONWELL AUGUSTUS WHITK THOMAS, 28, clerk, appeared before Mr Fisher, S.M., at the Sydney Water Police Court, on November 19, in answer to a charge of obtaining by means of a wilfully false promise, from Robert James McKenzie, cheques to the amount of £7000, with intent to defraud. He was also charged with embezzling certain chattels, moneys, and valuable securities, to wit, £13,782 6s 3d, entrusted to him by the Bank of New Zealand. Mr B. R. Wise, instructed by Mr Mintor (Want, Johnson, and Co.) appeared to prosecute, and Mr Slattery appeared for the defence. On the application of Mr Slattery. the cases were remanded for a week. Thomas was then arraigned on a charge of falsifying accounts, and remanded.
