MR. NEWTON KING'S WEEKLY AUCTION AND PRODUCE REPORT.

At the Haymarket, on Saturday, a large number of pigs were penned; slips making from 3s to 10s, small stores 13s 6d ; hacks made from 12s 6d to £3 12s 6d. At the mart, fowls made Is Id to Is sd, ducks Is 6d to Is Bd, turkeys 2s 7d to 3s, new potatoes l^d, old do Is 9d to 3s 6d, inferior fowl wheat 2s 6d, good do 3s 6d, prime bacon 6d, cheese 4d to 4£d, tea 14s, sugar 3d to 3^d. Furniture and sundries sold at rather low rates. Fruit this week has again been more plentiful, but prices are still high, owing to small supplies coming forward. On Saturday I sold a consignment of Sydtey oranges, which made 14s, and on Tuesday at a sale of Island fruit oranges made 13a, pineapples 9s 6d, bananas 2J to 3d, all being in splendid condition. Cattle. —At Ingiewood on Tuesday the yards were well tilled, and sale passed off satisfactorily, prices in common with the other sales lately, being slightly easier, but bidding was brisk and nearly all 'sold at the hammer, young cattle being in good demand. Dairy stock of all kinds were very dull; calves 12s to 13s 6d, yearlings 15s to 225, 18 month steers 275, 2 year heifers 30s to 375, 2 to 2i year steers £2, fat cows £2 12s 6d. —At Stratford on Wednesday the yards were crowded, principally with steers, several large pens of which were unsold, buyers' and sellers' ideaß of value not coinciding. The dry weather, which unfortunately still continues, is making buyers most independent. Of course there is as yet no want of feed in the bush districts. The bidding was livoly enough for young cattle and for steers up to a certain price. 319 head wero sold ; yearlings 19s to 25s for steers, heifers 14s to 18s, springing cows £2 to £3, 2 year steers 355, 2 to 2£ £2 Is, 3 years and over £2 14, fat cows to £3. Produce. —Potatoes are hard to sell on a falling market. Butter. —Some space having been secured in the Kaikoura, butter has again gone up to 6d, and I trust it will not go lower this season.
