Sydney, November 22. I Admiral Lord Scott has assumed the command of the Australian naval station. . A well-known jockey, named Frank Smith, has been arrested on the charge of murdering the man who was found stabbed to death at Surrey Hills, a suburb of Sydney, last week. A man named Paxton, alleged to have been an accomplice in the crime, has also been arrested. Brisbane, November 22. Major-General Edwards denies that he expressed the opinions attributed to him with reference to the consititution question of Western Australia, and says all he ever said on the subject was that if a responsible Government was granted to that colony at present it might create a fresh difficulty in way of federation.
