(Continued from yesterday.) On coining out of Committee, Mr Cokkill moved " That the Board, having perused and considered the joint report of Sir John Coode and Mr Bla^kett, dated London, August 12th, 1889, is' of opinion that the adoption of the suggested means for removing the sand from the harbonr is of the greatest moment to the port and district, but the Board being absolutely without the means for procuring or maintaining the required appliances, cannot hope to do anything without the aid of the Government." — Seconded by Mr Connett, and carried — Mr Paul further moved, " That in following out the recommendation in Sir John Coode's report, the Works Committee be requested to discharge all the hands at present employed in construction work at the breakwater, and that the Engineer be instructed to take the first favorablo opportunity of making the necessary repairs and stowing away tho macliinery."— -Seconded by Mr Mack, and carried. Mr Corkill moved, "That a letter be addressed to the Hon. the Defence Minister informing him that, owing to lack of funds, and in view of the opinion expressed by Sir John Coode and Mr Blackett, the Board propose to discontinue the work upon which the prisoners are at present employed."— Socondeti by Mr Shuttle* worth, aqd carriid.
