A MIRACULOUS ESCAPE. Abopt noon to-day (Friday) a little boy named Cook, son o£ Mr U. Cock, wbo resides in the west end of tbe town, bar] a miraculous escape from drowning in the Man^notuku stream, near tbe Town Bolt. While lunniug over the baok engaged in this, a stick whioh he grasped to steady himself broke, and hn was precipitated into the water — aevoral feet deep nt this placo. His sister, thoroughly terrified, saw him sink to the bottom, and then ran off to acquaint her parents, who live about 200 yards from the spot. Several neighbors and tbe parents hurried down on getting the alarm, when they found tho boy below tho bridge on tlm bank in a semi-conscious condition. It seems that ho had apparently been carried down ' y the cv eat under the bridge, and coming in coataot with a low portion of tbe bank bad caught bold of it and thus managed to draw himself out, ia a very exhausted condition. He was given some brandy, and other means were used to restore him to complete consciousness, which was effected in a little while.
