The upper portion of the body of a woman was found on the beach, near the river estuary. The remains are almost reduced to a skeleton. The only woman missing is Victoria Hope, an old "maggie" woman of high rank, who left Inveroargill some months ago to walk to River ton, and has not since been seen. A purse, with trinkets, and a few fragments of clothing were found on the remains, but the police are not yet able to fix the identity of the body.
