A LEVANTER FOUND.

Auckland, February 14. The last 'Frisco mail brought particulars of the levaufciug from California of C. W. Banks, cashier of the well known firm of Wells, Fargo & Co., who is said to have taken with him soina 50,000 dollars iv gold of the firm's money. A detective was despatched to Tahiti, aud news has been received hero that Banks, who is travelling under the alias of Scord, is at Raratouga. Scord, who states that he has been got away to save others, says he had ouly 1700 dollars with him. He has strongly ingratiated himself with Queen Makea and her subjects, both black and white, and it is said that while he remains there he will be safe from, arrest, unless a strong force is taken to back up the civU law.

FIRE AT GISBORNE.

Gisuorne, February 14. A two-roomed house, unoccupied, was found to bo on firo ou Saturday evening. It is supposed to be incendiarism, as the scrim was found burning against the wall inside. BARQUE AUUIVED FROM LONDON. Arrived : Barque Aikshaw, from London, 114 days out. Captain Or. Tail died on the voyage on January Ist, and was buried at sea. He was a married man.
