STOUT AND HIS EDUCATION FAD.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,— l hfiTe noticed many comments and remarks in newspapers re the action of Sir R. Stout at the Dunedin University. By some be is twitted with hasty temper, &o. Bat I think that any man who bad done so much for education as he has may well be annoyed at finding that larrikioism Is not caused by the want of education, and that education is not a core for larrikinism. If Sir Robert has had this idea and not divulged it, I bag to do so for him. The snobbery which onr present education system is breeding is something fearful. 1 know for facts that in many inbtancee children b&ve grown up to be ashamed of their parents, and would look upon honest labonr such as farming as degrading. I think that if ever there was an exposure of the imbecility and ntter worthlessness of Stout's "fad," it was the scene at the University, when the big chief actually had to threaten to call in the police. I would like to know what he would have done had the police interposed and put the darbies on the ringleaders. I think tho expoti of his abßurd education "fad" wsuld have been complete. — I am, &c , Professor Julien.
