Melbourne, September 8. The Premier, the Hon. Mr.'Gillies, is at present in communication with the Chairman of the Standing Com-
mittee of the Federal Council, with ,the view to united action being taken by the colonies 'regarding the New Hebrides ; also to adopt the necessary measures for the protection of the
colonies from the iuttux of recidiyistes.
In the Legislative Council last night, Mr. Mclntyre *gave notice of a question on the subject. Adelaide, September 8. The cable rouses from Penang to Madras aud Rangoon are still iuter-
rupted. - The only routes open westward of Singapore are via Hongkong and Cochin China. At increased
rates telegrams are being despatched by steamer over the interrupted - section between Penang and Rangoon as opportunity offers. The passage .occupies fo.ur days.
