THE YACHT ASTEROID.
The schooner yacht Asteroid, daily expected here on her journey round the world on a pleasure excursion, is at present at Duucdin. The following particulars of her and of her movements taken from an exchange may be found of interest : — The Asteroid is a very handsomely modelled and perfectly equipped vessel of 92 tons register. She was built at Cowes, Isle of Wight, by Messrs. C. Hanson and Sous, in 1880, and is under the flag of the Royal Mersey Yacht Club. She has boon out from England about eighteen months, and has visited the several Mediterranean ports, passed through the Suez Canal, and called at the Island of Ceylon, the Malay Peninsula, and Java, passing through the Straits of Sunda to King George's Souud ; and after calling at Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney aud Hobart, left the latter port on December 31st, clearing D'Entrecasteaux Channel on January sth ; experienced fresh to light westerly winds across to New Zealand, and entered Milford Souud on January 12th, anchoring in the Freshwater Basin ; left 1 again on the lGth inst., experienced j strong westerly weather with heavy I rains, aud arrived at Duuedin on the 1 18 th iust. Captain Burton intends visiting the Northern ports of New Zealand, and thence proceeding to the Western Pacific. Her passengers are j Messrs. A. Deacon and T. A. N.
