OPENING OF MOKAU.
The Auckland Evening Star publishes the following letters :—: — [translation.] Mokau, January 28. To' the Editor, Auckland Evening Star. Oh friend, we have seen the excellence of itbe article in your newspaper. It is right tluft you i should make these suggestions, bo that .wo' may understand the idea of both rades (with reference to the lands at Mokau.) We peop,'e of Mokau Uavo applied that our lands may be passed through the Land Court, so that we may settle the ownership, so that we may be in a position to sell to the Europeans. No one outside of ourselves has any right to interfere with this land. The con^erit lies with us. They, have no more right to set up a claim to ownership in our land, than we have to the money ;n; n any man's coat or waistcoat .pocket. That \s his own property, as my land is mine; — Enough, j' _'' J/ "FromTAKiRAU. This is a copy of a letter from Manga (Rewi) Maniapoto to us :—": — " Puniu, Waikato, April 23, 1881. ■ This is a word from me to Takirau, of MokaiK The right (in respect to the land) is with him. Let the Maoris and Europeans listen to his word, as to the disposal (or administration) of the lands of Mokau. Therefore I have sent this letter to him. From Maxoa Maniapoto. Publish tin's letter that all the Europeans and Maoris^ may "hear. Also send a copy of thcrp'ape'r Containing this talk to (me) at the Post Office, Mokau. Enough.
