WELLINGTON.
September 2. The Tribune says there is not the least foundation for the statement which has been industriously circulated that tho Government intend to abandon the Local Government Bill. They will first push on the Abolition Bill, and thereafter proceed with the other. If tho second bill does not become law this session as well as the first one, it will not be from any wish of the Government to that effect, but will arise, wholly either from the Opposition insisting' upon waste of public time or from the apathy of the House. It is well the situation should be understood and realised thus early. Tho debate in commHtee on the Abolition Bill commences to-night. It is said that if tho discussion is carried on in a fair spirit there will be but little difficulty in passing all the Government measures; if nor, it is hard to conjecture what may ensue. A few days ago everything vms " to tho bitter death" with tho Opposition, but during the last day or two they havo shown sigus of being more amiable and less bitter in tone; and if the same factious conduct is carried on in committee that was resorted to in the debate, it is understood that they will have all tho talk to themselves, ns tho Government supporters do not intend to Bay anything to provoko discussion, and generally to say as little as possible. Mr. Pyke has gone homo without pairing on the third reading of the Abolition Bill.
