THE AUCKLAND ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

To tho Editor of the Taranaki Herald. Sib, — I sent yon a copy of onr last annual report, to whioh yon would see my name appended as Secretary, and to whioh I trust tbat yon will give pnblioity. We shall be very glad to have the names of any of yonr New Plymonth settlers upon oar roll of members ; and I cannot bnt think tbat they might do wisely in joining us— at least j until snob time as the Province can snpport an Acclimatisation Society of its own. I can assure you tbat we sboold gladly welcome j you, and would attend impartially to the re- j qoirementa of any district, whether within or beyond onr own Province, from which we reoeive subscriptions. I propose to make an effort to secure tho introduction botb of some birds from America as well as from England ; and also, as a matter of folly equnl importance, of some of the noble lake fish of the former country, espeoikally the Black and tho Silver Bass, whioh, I ibink, ought to thrive well bore. Trusting tbat yon will take an opportunity of drawing the attention of your readers to this nbjeot,— l am, &0., Elwin B. Dickson, Secretary. Awkland, April 26, 1874.

Th« B*at or Government.— A horrid rumour has lately been floating about the •• Empire City" (eaja the Wanganui Chronicle) that Mr. Yogel, irritated at the unwillingness of Messrs. Fitzherbert and Bunny to bow the j knee to Baal, is prepared to snpport a tnotiou : io the Assembly for the removal of the seat of Government. Both Christohnrch and Akaroa are mentioned as probable places to whioh the Government may be transferred ; and it is Stated that the Canterbury authorities •re prepared to contribute a sum of £200,000 to defray the coat of shifting the departments. To give oolonr to the report, the erection of the new General Government bnildings is, for the time, snapended. Knowing the sensitiveness of the Wellington folks ou this point, it is not improbable the Premier may have set the tele going, ia order to bring a little pressure to bear upon Mr. Fitzherbert ; bnt it may safely be asserted tbat nobody knowß better than Mr. Yogel that the seat of Government is Irrevocably fixed at Wellington, and the beat thing the WelHngtonians can do is to oalm their minds and smoke their pipes without misgivings as to the probable departure Of the Government with its tail from Port Nicholson. If they were to take the fixture of the seat of Government for granted , nobody wootd disturb them on the anbject, bnt their morbid touchiness is actually a temptation to irags to stir them np a bit.

Hollow*! 1 * Ointment and Pills. — A froquent oase of gout nnd rheumatism is the inflammatory- state of the blood, attended with bad digeition and general debility. A few dose* of the Pills, taken in time are an effectual prerentatiTe against gont and rheumatism. Any one who has an attack of either •hoald ate Holloway's Ointment also, the powerful action of which, combined with the operation of the Pills, mnst infallibly effect a rare. These Pills act directly on the blood, which they pnrify and improve. Having once subdued the severity of these diseases, persereranoe with the Ointoient, after fomenting the affected joiuis with warm brine, will speedily relax all atiffiiess, and prevent any perraanont contraction.
