Moke Acttons for Libel in Wanoanui. — The Chronicle of the 10th June, says that •• Wanganui soil must be very fertile and peculiarly adapted to the growth of thi3 poisonous weed. At tho present moment there are three actions for libel pending, and to-day wo hear of two more. There is a limit." Repair of the Telegraph. — The telegraph department (says tho Wanganni Chronicle) has evidoutly become alive to the necessity of attending to the electrioal condition of the lines under its control, which, so long as they worked at all, have hitherto been left for long periods without examination and repair. Now, however, the line between Opuuake and Wanganui has baen carefully gone over, and attended to where necessary. A similar conrso of treatment would no doubt be of use to the line from here to Wellington, as it is oat of order half the time from oanses which the head of the department and his electrioian have several times failed to discover. The leakage is so excessive that frequently Wellington messages have to be repeated at Foxtoa, and yet the cause of the leak and its location are sealed secrets to those whose place it is to discover them, and have the evil remedied. The Latest Electionekring Dodge. — The Daylcsford Mercury says that Mr. W. Rowo, one of the candidates for the vacant seat at the Council table, having had several hundred cartes taken of himself, in eight different attitudes, used them as a substitute for the ordinary canvassing card.
