TARANAKI LITERARY INSTITUTE

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the members of the Taranaki Literary Institute, took place on the evening of 19th July, in the reading room. H. R. Richmond, Esq., President, took the chair. The Pbesident briefly stated that he had not thought it necessary to draw up a report, as so little change bad taken place since tho last meeting was held. He might, however, state that the number of members for the upper library had fallen from twenty-seven to tweutyone; there were, however, thirteen lady members ; for the lower library the number of members had fallen from eighty-six to tweutyseven ; and the reading room from ninety-two to eighty-seven members. The total number of the members of the Institute was now 14S members. The eighty-seven members of the reading room who paid 4s. per annum, did not defray the expenses incurred, the amount contributed beiug only £17 Bs. ; adding however, four shillings for eaoh of tbe twentyone full members, it brought ths sum to £21 12s. The expense of lighting was £12 12s. yd., and firing £3 7s. 9d., making £16 os. 6d. The Committee supplied tho reading room with the Fortnightly and Macmillaa magazines, besides several English papers, which would make considerably over the fc'2l subscribed. He would now read the members a statement of the reueipts and expenditure for the year eudiug 30th June, 1871.

ELECTION OP OFFICERS. The following gentlemen were appointed officers for the ensuing year : — President, H. R. Richmond, Esq. ; Treasurer, T. King, Esq. ; Hon. Secretary, C, D. Whitcombe, Esq. , Cammittee, the Yen. Archdeacon Govett, Messrs. H. Westou, H. E. Kenny, T. Kelly, F. Ronalds, C. Brown, B. C. Lawrence, and T. Colson ; Auditors, Messrs. W. Webster and T. Colson. This being the whole of the business, the meeting adjourned.
