FIRES.
AT BELFIELD. A foar-roomed cottage, containing furniture, was burned to the ground at liellield on Friday night . _'l he house'was owned by Messrs Archibald Weaver and -I. IV. Campbell, and the furniture was the property of Mr Weaver The house was situated on a Hoad hoard reserve on the Geraldine side of the Ornri river near thcßellield crossing. Mr Weaver’s wife died about, a month ago, and since then he has been living with his brother at Bollield. At 5 pan. on Friday he last saw his house, when' everything appeared to be all right, but ofi Saturday at. 11 nan., when Mrs Weaver, seur., went there, she found that during the night everything had been destroyed by lire. The house and furniture were insured in the Atlas (Mlice for £l5O. The origin of the lire is a mystery v The loss of the owners is estimated at i‘so.
AT TEMUKA,. TRAD-SHED DESTROYED. An outbreak of lire occurred in the trap sited, at the rear of St. Rotor’s vicarage, King street, Temuka, at 1 .'ls p.m. yesterday. The origin of the lire is a mystery. The Brigade turned out with commendable promptitude, and within bight minutes of the alarm had a stream of water on the flames. Owing to the largo length of hose in use, and its leaky condition, a very strong pressure was not obtainable. In any case, the lire was well advanced by the time Hie alarm was given, mid the shed was demolished. A gig was removed in time to avoid damage. A ((uaiilßv of chaff and hay was destroyed.
