Gapes’ Valley School Treat.

On Friday last one of the most enjoyable and successful school treats over hold in the Valley toot place in a paddock kindly lent for the occasion by Mr H. M. Gairduer. In audition to the residents of Gapes’Valley a very largo number of visitors came from Kakahu Bush and Geraldine. The weather was all that one could desire, and the day a most enjoyable one. The committee worked energetically to promote the enjoyment of all. Numerous foot races were run by the school children and visitors, also a race for the men, and a similar one for the ladies, flounders and other games were played with energy and spirit by the young people. A bountiful spread of provisions was provided by the ladies of the district tor the children, and all visitors were made cordially welcome. After tea the annual distribution of prizes took place. Mr Flat man in a few well-chosen remarks to the scholars presented the prizes to the successful recipients. The chairman moved a cordial vote of thanks to Mr Flatman for his services, especially after performing a similar function at Orari. Mr Flatman, in acknowledging the vote, thanked the committee, and said_ it had been a pleasure to be present with them that day. Mr Flatman moved a cordial vote of thanks to the teacher, Mrs Newuham, for the care and attention she had evidently bestowed upon the scholars. Cheers were heartily given for Mr Flatman, the teacher, and the parents by the scholars. Afterwards the young people tripped the light fantastic toe ” into the “ wee sma’ hours.’’
