Stranding of the Airlie.

Beisb.vne, Jan. 23. The China. Company’s steamer, Airlie, is ashore at Chatham Beef, 200 miles north of Cooktowu. Tho mssengers and mails have been brought to Cooktowu by an American cruiser. Tho Airlie, en route from China, struck at 2 o’clock on Sunday morning at full tide and lies hard and fast high up tho reef. The fore part is badly damaged and there are eight feet of water in the forehold. The captain and crew remain on board. In response to the captain’s request immediate assistance and salvage steamers will be sent. The weather was thick and foggy when the Airlie struck. She has three large holes in her forehold. The passengers were asleep, but there was no commotion. They quietly waited till morning, when the rescuing steamer was signalled. The stern cf the Airlie is afloat and it is feared that she will break her back.
