Fairlie Public Hall.

The adjourned annual general meeting of debenture holders in the Fairlie Public Hall was held on “Wednesday evening. There was a small attendance, Mr F. R. Gillingham presiding. Tho balance-sheet for the past year was submitted. It showed a credit balance at date of about £ls in hand after outstanding accounts are paid. The baiance-sheet was duly adopted, subject to being passed by the auditor. A letter was read from Mr Thomas Fawcett, suggesting the advisability for the purchase of a piano for use in the hall. — Secretary to reply that the committee cannot see their way to comply with the request, but that an endeavor will be made to form a separate company to purchase an instrument. Tho election of a committee resulted as follows : Messrs Siogert, McLean, Banks, Gilmour, Fraser, Foden, W. Bain, F. R. Gillingham, and Dopping. Mr Gillingham was elected chairman and auditor. Mr Doqxpiug was elected secretary and treasurer, and a vote of thanks was passed to Mr Foden, who has acted in a similar capacity during tho past year. It was decided to procure a lantern for use at the entrance door of the. hall. Mr Dopping drew attention to the necessity for painting and strengthening the building, but it was decided to do nothing in this matter until the next annual meeting in March. The Caledonian Society applied for a reduction in tho rent charged them for the use of the building.—To be informed that when arrears of rent are paid up tho matter will be duly considered. Accounts amounting to £6 10s were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
