The Belfast barque Bessfield, Captain Doey, which left Timaru in August last arrived at Queenstown on November 21st, Captain Doey reported that on the 30th August, an ordinary seaman named George Grychite, about 17 years of age, jumped] overboard and was drowned, efforts made to save him being futile. Before he committed the rash act he went to the cook's galley and asked the cook fo- yne coffee. The cook replied that he hai. none ready then, whereupon the young fellow said, " As you have no coffee to give me, you will seo me no more; lam going right away," and with that he got on the rail and jumped overboard. He joined the vessel at Timaru, and his shipmates believed he was more or less demented then. At the Auckland Police Court ou Monday, Daley was charged (1) That ou the 21st December lie cuncea'od property of the valuo of £lO and upwards, that ough t to be divisiblo among his crsditors, viz , £1950. (2) That on the 21st of December he disposed of drapery and clothing to tho value of £2977, which ho obtaiued on credit, and had' not paid for. After the evidence of William Henry Grave, importer of fruit from the islands, and who was bound over to appear at the supremo Court ou February 20th, had been taken, prisoner was remanded until 22nd instuut. It will be rememberod that at tho first meeoting of O. O. Daley's creditors it was resolved that a reward of £2OO should bo gi en to any peraou who first gave information of the whereabouts of Daley. On Tuesday afternoou £2OO was paid over by Mr John Lawson, tin Offici il Aseignoo. Power, a gum digger, received £IOO, and Constable Kelly, o! Htlensville, £1(0. It is understood thai Constable Kelly will give native Consta bio Williams a sum for his efforts in discovering Daley. Christchurch papers report the death at Little River of Philip Ryan, at the age of 08. He arrived in New Zealand in March, 183!). In IS4O he went to Port Levy, where ho married a Maori woman. He lived from that time within sight of Bank's Peninsula.

Mackenzie Collie TJog Club.—A committee meeting of the Mackenzie Collie Dog Club was held at McMillan's Hotel on Saturday evening, for the purpose of transacting important business in connection with the successful carrying through of the club's object —its now fast approaching annual gathering on the last Thursday in March next, when the club carries out its usual four very strong class events, it having been decided to continue having one for youths under IS years. The club gives higher money prizes than in former years also a second gold medal to dog coming next to champion, medal winner, and holder of the club's cup. Several valuable specials have already been promised, which the committee decided to allot at its next sitting, first Saturday in March, when it is sanguinely anticipated that satisfactory arrangements will have been made in securing a very capable judge from far out of the district, and suitable ground and sheep secured, given which no doubt should occur but that this Club will experience as successful a year as has been its good fortune the last few years when the trials have been run under its auspices
