THE PRESBYTEBY OF TIMARU
The Presbytery of Timaru met on Tuesday last at Timaru. Present—Revs. J, White (moderator), W. Gillies, J. Dickson, W. J. Gomne, aud A. B. Todd, and Messrs Thos. Morrison, P. W. H utton, G. Goldie, and S. McCully (elders). An apology was received for the absence of the Rev. M. Kelly. On the motion of Mr Todd, seconded by Mr Dickson,a resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr'John Cuthbert, and expressing the presbytery’s sense of his worth, was passed The Revs. W. J. Comrie and W. Gillies and Mr P. W. Hutton were appointed delegates to the meeting of assembly in Auckland in February, and also any other elder who can find it convenient to go. It was agreed to visit the congregation of Timaru on 9th April, and that at Pleasant Point in October, a conference to be held in connection with the visitation at Timaru. An application was received from the congregation at Mackenzie Country for permission to mortgage the church property at Fairlie, if necessary, for the purpose of paying the balance of purchase money of the same. The presbytery expressed its gratification at the settlement of the matter at Fairlie, and the conveyance of the property to the Presbyterian Church, and sanctioned the application. Mr Gillies reported that the Rev. Mr JttcNeill, had visited Timaru at the end of November last, and held a meeting in the church. He also mentioned that Dr Lamb was to sail from the Old Country for New Zealand on January 12th. Mr Todd also mentioned that his brother, Mr James Todd, who was ou his way to China to work in the China mission, had visited Geraldine the previous week and held a meeting in the church. He stated also that friends in New Zealand had undertaken to support his work in China.
